Apple Harvest, 2021

Standard

Every year around August or September my family has apple harvest, where we process and can apples in many various forms. It’s a lot of fun – for the first couple hours! After hours and hours and days, it does get quite tiring though. However, it’s definitely worth it to have apples saved for the rest of the year!

We have two apple trees, but the majority of the apples, we bought and picked from our neighbor’s trees.

For two days, we cut, chopped, sliced, peeled, juiced, froze, mashed, boiled and cooked apples. We made apple cider, apple pie filling, dried apples, frozen apples, canned apples, apple sauce, apple butter and more. You name it, we probably made it!! πŸ˜‚

My adorable brother, James

For lunch, since we didn’t really have time to make anything, Dad got hamburgers, which is a special treat. T’was a bright spot in a rather long, tiresome day. Lol!

After lunch, we resumed work. Apples, apples, apples! These are a fraction of the jars that we canned. I think most of these are apple cider, which will be awesome during the fall and winter months!

The next afternoon, we (finally!) we were mostly finished, except for a little bit more dehydrating we did here and there for the next few days. πŸ™‚

Here are the estimated results of our harvest, (which we have affectionately dubbed “Apples Party”

~Canned 62 quarts of apple juice
~Canned 29 quarts of apple sauce
~19 gallons of juice for the freezer
~8 quarts of apple sauce for the freezer
~19 gallons of apple slices for the freezer
~Filled the 9 tray dehydrator 7 times
~9 quarts apple butter
~24 pints apple butter
~27 quarts of apple pie filling

Roughly 800 lbs of apples were processed. Yay!!

What’s your favorite apple product? Red or green apples? (Green all the way for me!)

Love,

  2. Yum! I love apples. I’m really wanting to try dehydrated apples. I really like apple pie, apple cider, apple juice, apples plain, and applesauce! And I like both red and green apples evenly! πŸ™‚

  3. Awwe WOW!! ❀ That is incredible!! We have a few apple trees, and this was our first year trying our hand at them. We got a few, but definitely could have done several things better lol ❀ I think I'd have to go with applesauce and apple crisps for my favorite products!

  5. Wow!! Imagine how many apple tarts and pies can be made πŸ™‚
In Italy all our apples are treated (to make them shiny and last longer), and I find it really a pity πŸ™‚
